Patron Saint George and the Dragon Bronze Figurine Sculpture 20" x 15"
Description
Total Dimensions: Height 20'' x Width 15'' Approximate Weight: 45 LBS Original Reproduction: ReproductionThis is a bronze sculpture depicting the legendary Saint George Killing a dragon. The slaying is said to have happened in a place called Silene in Libya. A plaque-bearing dragon lived around a town of ancient lore that had a pond, as large as a lake, where it envenomed all the countryside. To appease the dragon, the people of Silene used to feed it two sheep everyday, and when the sheep failed, they fed it their children, chosen by lottery. It happened that the lot fell on the king`s daughter. The king, distraught with grief, told the people they could have all his gold and silver and half of his kingdom if his daughter were spared; the people refused. The daughter was sent out to the lake decked out as a bride, to be fed to the dragon. Saint George by chance rode past the lake. the princess, trembling, sought to send him away, but George vowed to remain. The viewer witnesses as St. George Valiantly arises to the noble moment of saintly protection as he rears his spear on high, jutting a fatal wound into the dragon that twists and writhes under his weight. The sculpture was cast using the age-old method of lost-wax casting and stained with a brown patina finish for preservation. It is mounted upon a black marble base with the European Bronze Finery stamp of quality and the artist Barye signature.

FAQ's
What material are your sculptures made out of?
All of our sculptures are made from100% hot cast bronze, and handmade in the ancient lost wax casting method. We never sell cheap cold cast sculptures or resins!
What is the difference between hot cast and cold cast bronzes?
Hot cast bronze is created by pouring a molten metal mixture into a mold. Before the metal can be poured, our artists must first create the mold on a medium such as clay, rubber, or wood. Each mold allows for a limited number of pours, and therefore a limited amount of sculptures can be created in any given round of production before the mold is destroyed and the artist must create a new mold.
Cold cast is actually made from resins and plastics which are painted over. They are cheaper, lighter, and less durable.
Generally speaking, hot cast bronzes are very time consuming and limited in their production, whereas cold cast resins can be mass produced and are inexpensive to create.
