Descending Night" About the Sculpture: This famous piece entitled "Descending Night" was crafted by German sculptor, Adolph A. Weinman. It depicts a nude female angel with her head downcast, her arms softly brushing her hair, which cascades flowingly down her back. Her extended large wings are crafted with exquisite detail. "Descending Night", and its companion work, "Rising Day" were originally designed as fountain figures fort he 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. Following the exhibition, Weinman reproduced both works in two sizes, one measuring approximately 24 inches tall and the other approximately 57 inches. It is signed A.A weinman About the Artist: Born in Germany, Adolph Alexander Weinman immigrated to the United States with his mother when he was ten. At 15, he was apprenticed to carver Frederick Kaldenberg, who worked primarily in wood and ivory. His evenings were spent studying drawing and modeling at Cooper Union. Later, Weinman studied at the Art Students League where he was instructed by the premiere American sculptor at that time, Augustus Saint-Gaudens.Among his other sculptures were both portrait statues and more speculative dramatic works. Among his dramatic works are Fountain of the Water Centaurs, located on the grounds of the Missouri State Capitol, Riders of the Dawn, a fountain piece at Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina, and the well-known pieces Rising Sun, Descending Night ,Duet, Narcissus, and Aphrodite

Absolutely stunning!

This Statue is absolutely stunning! I love it. Pictures do not begin to do it justice. I just ordered this and it's arrived already. I can't believe the level of protection for shipping. If anything they overprotected it. I have ordered from this company many times and know I will probably order again at a future date. I highly recommend this merchant.

What material are your sculptures made out of?

All of our sculptures are made from100% hot cast bronze, and handmade in the ancient lost wax casting method. We never sell cheap cold cast sculptures or resins!

What is the difference between hot cast and cold cast bronzes?

Hot cast bronze is created by pouring a molten metal mixture into a mold.  Before the metal can be poured, our artists must first create the mold on a medium such as clay, rubber, or wood.  Each mold allows for a limited number of pours, and therefore a limited amount of sculptures can be created in any given round of production before the mold is destroyed and the artist must create a new mold.

Cold cast is actually made from resins and plastics which are painted over. They are cheaper, lighter, and less durable.

Generally speaking, hot cast bronzes are very time consuming and limited in their production, whereas cold cast resins can be mass produced and are inexpensive to create.

Do you do custom work?

Custom work is available in some cases.  Please contact us with the details of the job.

Can I sell you one of my own pieces?

Unfortunately, we do not buy pieces from the public.  To ensure the highest quality, we only sell brand new pieces that we commission ourselves, or buy directly from artists and manufacturers we know and trust.
