Poised with a shield on his arm, a bow on his back, and a quiver of arrows by his feet, the young cupid is portrayed in a playful and determined stance. His gaze reflects a mischievous intent as he tiptoes through the woods, ready to instigate matchmaking between unsuspecting individuals. Adorned with a headband and a securely tied string holding his bow, the cupid's physique embodies the innocence and charm of youth, with subtle muscle tones and soft features, including a cute little nose. The wings, intricately detailed and almost lifelike, enhance the sculpture's overall beauty. Crafted using the "Lost Wax Method," this bronze sculpture boasts an extravagant brown patina, adding warmth and depth to its appearance. It is signed by the artist A. Moreau, whose work exemplifies expertise in sculpting figures, statuettes, and groups, particularly in marble. Auguste Moreau, born in Dijon in the 19th century, studied under Mathurin Moreau, and his career as a sculptor flourished. Debuting at the 1861 Salon in Paris, he continued to actively participate in the Salon des Artistes Francais, becoming a member of the Societe des Artistes Francais until 1910.
