AGE OF BRONZE ADAM by Auguste Rodin Bronze Statue Sculpture Marble Base 21.5" x 9.5"
Total Dimensions: Height 21.5'' x Width 9.5'' Approximate Weight: 28 LBS Original Reproduction: ReproductionThis is a bronze replica of Auguste Rodin's 'Adam' sculpture. In 1880, Rodin proposed to Turquet, the Undersecretary for Fine Arts, to flank his 'Gates of Hell' by two colossal statues: Adam and Eve, the first sinners. The Gates of Hell is a monumental sculptural group that depicts a scene from "The Inferno", the first section of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy written in the early 14th century. He had visited the two most famous versions of this subject: Masaccio's 'Adam and Eve' in Santa Maria Novella, Florence, and the Sistine Chapel in Rome with Michelangelo's frescos , featuring Adam reaching his hand out to God as the central scene. But being dissatisfied with his first outline of 'Adam', because he thought it too close to Michelangelo's style, he destroyed this first version. Rodin made Adam look down instead of facing his Father-Creator. We understand this downward look as an expression of shame and guilt expressing the shame and remorse after the Fall to sin. He is posed in a contrapposto but unnatural pose as though the feeling of remorse writhes his body. He was captures using the age-old method of lost wax casting and finished with brown patina stain. Adam is mounted upon a black marble base with the European Bronze Finery stamp of quality and the artist Rodin's signature. François-Auguste-René Rodin (12 November 1840 – 17 November 1917), known as Auguste Rodin was a French sculptor. Although Rodin is generally considered the progenitor of modern sculpture, he did not set out to rebel against the past. He was schooled traditionally, took a craftsman-like approach to his work, and desired academic recognition, although he was never accepted into Paris's foremost school of art. From the unexpected realism of his first major figure—inspired by his 1875 trip to Italy—to the unconventional memorials whose commissions he later sought, Rodin's reputation grew, such that he became the preeminent French sculptor of his time. By 1900, he was a world-renowned artist.
Great service and a great product.
Very good piece of art
What a sculpture it looks like the Stag is in my house. I love it.
As far as weight, I meant to say, "NOT debilitatingly so"
I absolutely love this piece, it sits on display prominently in my home. It's quality is top notch, and ofcourse very heavy as it's bronze. But debilitating so. Packaging as always couldn't have been better. Every piece I've ever purchased from bronzhaus has always been well packaged and high quality.
Thank you to the artist aswell. I own several of their pieces.
I’m very pleased with details
Pose and quality
This is a beautiful work of art. I did have a problem, however. The sculpture was received upside down because no marking on the box to keep any side up. Three of the wings of the eagle on the left side facing were bent inward and out of alignment with the rest of the wings. I had to straighten them using blocks and a very large c-clamp to move the wings without cracking. I didn't refuse the delivery because it wasn't the carrier's fault that it was received in this condition. The packaging is otherwise great to try to protect the sculpture. Overall, I'm pleased it arrived in one piece and looks great after repair!
I just received the Indian Eagle sculpture...it is breathtaking. The detail and elegance of the piece surpasses my expectation. I hope to purchase the companion piece in the very near future.
An absolutely beautiful piece of art that truly makes me happy! As a retired Colonel in the USAF, the Eagle is a symbol of my service, and having this one just feels right - great work, great packaging, and fast shipment.
I like it alot, I wish you had a larger version of this.
It's a very nice dragon sculpture. Got it for my daughter's birthday. I think she'll love it.
Love this beautiful...and beautifully made sculpture
Beautifully made (as I have come to expect from Bronzhaus), regal king of the Underworld.
Smooth transaction, excellent piece of art. Highly recommended seller. Perfect packing which allows that the sculptures arrive in perfect conditions. Have bought many pieces from them and always very satisfied.
This is the second statue I purchased. Bopth came promptly and the detail is great.
What material are your sculptures made out of?
All of our sculptures are made from100% hot cast bronze, and handmade in the ancient lost wax casting method. We never sell cheap cold cast sculptures or resins!
What is the difference between hot cast and cold cast bronzes?
Hot cast bronze is created by pouring a molten metal mixture into a mold. Before the metal can be poured, our artists must first create the mold on a medium such as clay, rubber, or wood. Each mold allows for a limited number of pours, and therefore a limited amount of sculptures can be created in any given round of production before the mold is destroyed and the artist must create a new mold.
Cold cast is actually made from resins and plastics which are painted over. They are cheaper, lighter, and less durable.
Generally speaking, hot cast bronzes are very time consuming and limited in their production, whereas cold cast resins can be mass produced and are inexpensive to create.
