This is a bronze sculpture honoring the eminent Gaius Julius Caesar (13 July 100 BC &ndash. 15 March 44 BC) who was a Roman general and statesman. He played a critical role in the gradual conversion of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. He began extensive reforms of Roman society and government. He centralised the bureaucracy of the Republic and was eventually proclaimed "dictator in perpetuity". He is seen here in his unrivaled power wearing a generals attire. He wears the chest armor, over what would have been, a wool tunic in a deep purple as used in martial triumphs. He holds a scepter, which is a symbolic ornamental rod or wand borne, in his left hand, significant of a ruling monarch as an item of royal or imperial insignia. His face looks out boldly to the cheering masses, raising his hand in acknowledgment. This icon of the ages was molded using the age-old methods of lost-wax casting and stained with a brown patina finish. He stands upon a black marble base and is signed by artist Miguel Lopez.
