Frederic Remington was an American painter, illustrator, and sculptor who specialized in depicting the American West. He was born in Canton, New York, in 1861 and showed an early interest in art and horses. He attended Yale University and the Art Students League of New York, but did not complete his formal education. He traveled extensively in the West and became fascinated by the landscapes, wildlife, and Native American cultures. He also served as a war correspondent and illustrator for several magazines, covering conflicts such as the Spanish-American War and the Boer War. Remington is best known for his bronze sculptures of cowboys, soldiers, and horses, such as "Bronco Buster" and "The Cheyenne". He also painted vivid scenes of western life, such as "A Dash for the Timber" and "Fight for the Waterhole". He was influenced by impressionism and realism, and used a variety of techniques to create a sense of movement and drama in his works. Remington died in 1909 from complications after an appendectomy. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of the American West and a pioneer of western art.
