Chiparus, born 16 September 1886 in Romania, spent most of his life in Italy and Paris. His works were produced under the heavy influence of the French theatre, fashion, dance, and a love for Egyptian culture. The artist, whose full name was Demetre Haralamb Chiparus, died 22 January 1947 in Paris, where he had worked as a sculptor and ceramist. Nowadays, the largest collection of D. H.
