Joan of Arc, affectionately known as "The Maid of Orléans" (French: La Pucelle d'Orléans), holds a revered place in French history and Catholic tradition. Born into a peasant family in northeastern France, she rose to prominence by claiming divine guidance and leading the French army to pivotal victories during the Hundred Years' War. Her courage and strategic brilliance paved the way for the coronation of Charles VII of France, solidifying her status as a national heroine. However, Joan's fate took a tragic turn when she was captured by the Burgundians and subsequently handed over to the English for a ransom. She faced a sham trial orchestrated by the pro-English Bishop of Beauvais, Pierre Cauchon, who accused her of "insubordination and heterodoxy." Despite her unwavering faith and steadfast defense, Joan was unjustly convicted of heresy and sentenced to death by burning at the stake at the tender age of 19. Despite her untimely demise, Joan of Arc's legacy endures as a symbol of courage, faith, and resilience. Canonized as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church, she continues to inspire generations with her unwavering devotion to her beliefs and her unwavering commitment to her country. Her story serves as a reminder of the power of conviction and the enduring strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
