Presenting a stunning bronze replica of "The Kiss" (1889) by the renowned French sculptor Auguste Rodin. This iconic sculpture features an embrace between a passionate couple and originally formed part of a series of reliefs adorning Rodin's monumental bronze masterpiece, "The Gates of Hell," commissioned for a museum of art in Paris. Initially titled "Francesca da Rimini," it portrays the ill-fated lovers Francesca and Paolo, who meet a tragic end due to their forbidden love, as depicted in Dante's Inferno (Circle 2, Canto 5). These lovers, who found inspiration in the tale of Lancelot and Guinevere, met their demise at the hands of Francesca's husband, Giovanni Malatesta. They were condemned to the second circle of hell for their passionate love, forever separated in the afterlife. In this sculpture, their lips don't quite touch, suggesting an interrupted moment that sealed their fate. Crafted with exquisite detail, this masterful work of art was created using the time-honored lost-wax casting method, ensuring that every nuance is preserved. Its rich brown patina finish enhances its timeless beauty.
