Several of Dali`s obsessions translate into elements of this now iconic work. Atop the head of the naked woman is a kind of hat comprised of a bread loaf and a couple, the latter based on Jean Millet`s widely-known painting, The Angelus. Most anyone who follows Dali`s art knows that this painting intrigued, haunted and obsessed Dali all his life - ever since he first saw a reproduction of it hanging in his grade school. Millet`s famous picture is of a poor peasant couple facing each other in a field, lamenting the death of their child. The woman`s hands ore clasped together and her head is bowed in a prayerful pose. Dali`s various interpretations of the motif are essentially sexual suggesting that the woman is akin to the preying mantis, paging pre-coital homage to her mate before eventually devouring him. According to Dali the man had his hat lowered to conceal an erection. This allusion suggests a key Freudian concept of castration anxiety that Dali was keen to explore within his `paranoid-critical` method. In another depiction Millet`s Architectonic Angelus, Dali uses biomorphic forms that depict the probe of the female mantis penetrating the male, its phallic tenure by a female alluding to the ideal androgyny that had possession of both male and female genitalia. This sculpture was casted using the ancient "Lost Wax Method" using two tone brown patina. Mounted atop a black marble base, signed Dali.

Wonderful and Elegant

The bronzes supplied by BronzHaus are superb and elegant - bringing back images of times past. They are truly a wonderful piece of art in any setting. I have purchased four of them to date and each of the flapper girls from Art Deco period bring a sense of warmth each viewing.

Fantastic Tin Picture

This American Flag with a 3D map of the United States coming "out" of it is fantastic. Really good size, nice and big but not to heavy to hang alone. Has 2 hooks on back for nails. Makes great impression. Came packaged very well to protect it. Very happy with this purchase.

Great value bronze.

I ordered a large bronze Cape Buffalo by Milo and got 60% off! A true bargain. And shipping of that heavy beast was only $89.00. It came in a huge box with double layers of foam in perfect condition and promptly! I could not be happier with my purchase.

Great bronzes!

I bought 3 beautiful bronzes - all life-like wildlife depictions. The prices were great and the detail of the animals was incredible! Loved them all! They arrived in Australia from the US in a very timely manner and were packed in bespoke boxes which can be retained to protect the bronzes should future relocation be required. I am very happy with my purchases and highly recommend this company to anyone interested in acquiring beautiful, well-priced bronzes!
