This is an exquisitely detailed hot cast bronze sculpture rendition of hermes/mercury and pandora. The remarkable sculpture of two figures are balanced practically on mercury’s toes achieved by solid casting mercury’s foot and toes as part of the base and joining them, as a unit at his thigh. Assorted mythological tales describe the aura of pandora. Pandora was the image of a perfect, beautiful woman. It is believed that zeus appointed hephaestus to create her. She was formed from earth and water and arose from the earth, inanimate and naked - a perfect parthenos. pandora was then adorned with gifts from all of the gods, clothed in gold, jewels, and elaborate garments. Pandora was sent to earth flown by Hermes/Mercury with a box, named pandora’s box, and given to epimetheus as a wife. Pandora was sent to punish the human race because Prometheus gave them the gift of fire that was stolen from the gods. Before Pandora there was no evil, no sickness or death and no labor. The world was perfect. Pandora`s box is the vessel she brought to earth. It contained all of the evils which she released onto humanity, leaving only hope behind. This rendition was cast using the age-old technique of lost-wax casting and finished with a brown patina stain. It stands communicating the fables and messages of the antiquated gods upon a black marble base with the artist`s signature Brousse.

FAQ's

What material are your sculptures made out of?

All of our sculptures are made from100% hot cast bronze, and handmade in the ancient lost wax casting method. We never sell cheap cold cast sculptures or resins!

What is the difference between hot cast and cold cast bronzes?

Hot cast bronze is created by pouring a molten metal mixture into a mold.  Before the metal can be poured, our artists must first create the mold on a medium such as clay, rubber, or wood.  Each mold allows for a limited number of pours, and therefore a limited amount of sculptures can be created in any given round of production before the mold is destroyed and the artist must create a new mold.

Cold cast is actually made from resins and plastics which are painted over. They are cheaper, lighter, and less durable.

Generally speaking, hot cast bronzes are very time consuming and limited in their production, whereas cold cast resins can be mass produced and are inexpensive to create.

Do you do custom work?

Custom work is available in some cases.  Please contact us with the details of the job.

Can I sell you one of my own pieces?

Unfortunately, we do not buy pieces from the public.  To ensure the highest quality, we only sell brand new pieces that we commission ourselves, or buy directly from artists and manufacturers we know and trust.
